a bit of program history

Week five on the schedule and time to move from the transition phase to the aerobic conditioning phase.  Keep in mind there are still two more weeks of just easy aerobic running.  But now we should really be looking at those weekly mileage numbers and making every effort to hit them. Now is also a good time to be reminded of all those little things that we do while at school but sometimes neglect while at home...stretching and mobility, daily supplements, general strength, daily recovery strategies, icing, etc.  Also, as we move past the transition phase, let's make an effort to run more hilly routes that will improve leg strength as we build aerobic ability.  Lastly, twenty years ago our 4x400 became at that time only the second relay in NCAA history to break 3:00, narrowing missing the collegiate record while winning the championship.  Recently it was uploaded to youtube.  The last two legs would go on to win gold medals in the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta.  Enjoy!

  4. 29 for last week. It was a rough beginning of the week, but I rallied well at the end of the week. I start my 6 day a week schedule this week, so I I should fall right in line with our plan for the year.

Also, awesome video! Very inspirational! I would like to point out the fact that I have the singlet version of that uniform as well.

  10. 1. Very cool vid.

    2. Anyone who has a GPS watch should join Strava. It's awesome. www.strava.com

Also, if you don't have a GPS watch you can still join and upload your runs or just follow everyone else.

    3. Anyone who is on/around campus and wants to start meeting me at the AA in the mornings (around 7:30-8:00) let me know. 678-951-5143. Also, I'm gonna start going to Kennesaw to run on Sundays for a long run if you'd like to join me.

deej--i don't know how i feel about strava. i got my garmin watch stolen so ive been using strava since last week, but i've ran with maureens garmin watch twice along with strava on my iphone, and strava overcalculated a little both days. unless the garmin watch is wrong. i suppose its an unknown mystery which one is actually correct.

p.s. that vid is supah legit!

  20. MK - when I compare it to my garmin connect account, strava does seem to have a tendency to over estimate/round up. The most I could find it rounding up was from 7.90 to 8.0, which doesn't make any sense to me since strava does go to the tenths. It also rounds down, but I've seen it round down from 5.64 to 5.6 and up from 8.13 to 8.2, so I have no idea when it decides to. From June 18 - June 24 it was off by +.06 (.06 miles over). I think I can live with that. I round to the whole number when calculating my weekly mileage anyway.

  22. 41 miles of undulating aerobic awesome. The week consisted primarily of easy late-afternoon runs through the hand-manicured trails of Wesleyan, which happens to be across the street from Careerbuilder & Seimens. @Shawn - you need 27 miles to beat doug? Lauren Fleshman just made the olympic trials 5k final on 10mi/week...Here's the interview
