rest for the weary

With the last few weeks being a solid block of training, this week is a well-earned period of recovery and consolidation. Plan a day off somewhere in the week on one of the aerobic recovery days by shifting that day's mileage to other days. And make a point to get as much rest and sleep as you can. Hopefully, an email will be sent to you this week with information detailing move-in, meetings, and physicals. So be looking for that. Our schedule will be finalized very soon and it is listed below. A couple of the dates are still tentative and are noted with an asterisk:

Saturday, Sep 4 / UGA Invitational / Athens, GA
Thursday, Sep 16 / GT v UGA Dual Meet / Athens, GA
*Saturday, Oct 1 / Louisville XC Classic / Louisville, KY
*Friday, Oct 15 / Blue Ridge Open / Boone, NC
Saturday, Oct 30 / ACC Championships / Boston, MA
Saturday, Nov 13 / NCAA South Region / Birmingham, AL
Monday, Nov 22 / NCAA National Championships / Terre Haute, IN

  3. 73, kind of high for the week but I was up in Pennsylvania camping all week, doubling Mon-Fri. Still want to "live like Patrick" Gomba?

I have mentioned this to Austen already but this trip really got me thinking about having a team "camp" in the future summers. I know my brother did this when he ran for Army, they would go to either Vermont or New Jersey as a team for a week of running a week or two before school started. I don't have details about where, when, money, etc. but I think it is an idea to consider.

  5. A solid 53 for the week. Felt a definite jump in fitness this week. Did a 4.5 mile tempo with the heat index over 100, so getting some good practice running when it's hot.

I like Patrick's idea, but more than anything I'm shocked that Patrick posted it. Actually, it probably wasn't him. I bet someone just asked him what he ran for the week, made up some details, and posted some wild plan. We'll probably see a "73" posted sometime later on.

That's not nice, whoever is messing with Patrick like that.

  7. Haha, Patrick - if living like you means writing in run-ons I don't think I can do it ;)

For the record, I really like the idea of a team camp. Good idea.

    34. 2 days off. Didn't want to rush anything with the Achilles still iffy. But things are feeling smooth, quick and strong. Hotter in NY than Atlanta. Yuck.

  9. 55!!! I'm pretty much focusing on getting the miles in with good form. I haven't been able to do anything too fast yet, but I did a 7 mile run Friday at a faster pace than my tempo from a few weeks ago, so that was exciting!! Hope everybody is doing well!!

Oh and Patrick - don't forget to tell me what classes you're taking, so I can bring whatever NRE stuff you might need this semester!!

  10. 43 on 5 days due to travelling. Patrick good idea. Good way to get everyone fired up for the season. That'd have to be on us though. I don't think coach can do something like that during the off season.

50 this week. Went to myrtle beach in the second half of the week and went a little short on thursday when I first arrived. But then turned it around and got some near-perfect runs in over the weekend. Did a 5ish mile tempo on tuesday that felt strong. I also felt a "definite jump in fitness" like eric but my "jump in fitness" was way higher than his jump was. Mine was like kobe bryant, and his was like Zydrunas Ilgauskas*. Also, the heat index was about 130 in north carolina, so I figure I'm getting some pretty good practice running when its hot.

Yeah the camp idea sounds pretty good. I vote we have it anywhere except for south carolina, for obvious reasons. Also, if coach really can't be a part of it then i nominate myself to take his place for the week. Tik tok on the clock.
