let the conditioning begin

Sorry for the short post today, first day of running camp in the mountains.  But aerobic conditioning begins in earnest this week.  The weekly schedule is found in the Summer Notes tab.  Be conservative with your paces for this first week.  Plenty of time to progress.  Have fun!

  1. 43 miles Walter Payton style. Currently stranded in Ohio because my car broke down, I'm getting faster just being in such a great state.

  2. 30 miles, took it easy this week because my achilles and calf were both hurting a bit. Both are better now so I should be able to hit my miles this week.

Sorry didn't have internet last week - 0 for the past 2 weeks but got some anti-inflammatory stuff prescribed so feeling better than I was, hopefully can put some mileage in later this week but will have to see. Also ended up sitting behind bernard lagat on the plane which was a moment of inspiration.

  10. 19 for last week. It was a real roller coaster ride from the get go. Had some ankle trouble randomly on Tuesday, but by the time I got to Peachtree Wednesday morning I felt fine. Ran a solid time of 35:22. Wasn't planning on running that fast, but I found myself on the start line with Greg Johnson and Matt Hickey. Greg proposed a perfectly paced plan to get through the race at an even pace, but all bets were off when the gun went off. After a faster first 5k than expected, I slowed it down on the second half to what I was originally planning on running. Long story short, my ankle flared up on me later that evening and has been on and off every since, so I attacked the bike the last half of the week.

  11. 40. Legs have felt a little sore past few days and took saturday off. Hip was bugging me a little but I swam instead. Heat index of 105+ past 3 days and weather channel quotes "dangerous heat index, limit outdoot exposure." Bleh

  26. Thanks to Shawn Reports, I am now fully capable of writing comments that are not anonymous. With that said I also have some very exciting news to share. At this moment precisely 7:02 pm I have discovered my NIKE black and yellow watch (of course) inside the liner of my couch. I am now fully equipped for tomorrow workout, thank you very much. I would like to share a famous quote now.

  28. Backed off to a measly/methodical 40mi for the week due to Achilles soreness. Achilles seems to be on the mend. It helps that my tendons consist mainly of wrought iron. Incorporated substantial amounts of cross training in the form of rowing-machine cardio. I'm throwing down the gauntlet for anyone man-enough to challenge me to 5000m on the 5th floor rowing machines at the CRC.
