"Great moments are born of great opportunity."

Inspired, once again, by the movie "Miracle", which chronicles the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team's march to the gold medal, this week we're re-visiting Coach Herb Brooks great quote.  Great moments, indeed, are born of great opportunity.  All the great moments you dream of having in the next academic year will be born by how you take advantage of all the opportunities you have each and every day to improve.  And that includes every hot and humid summer day!  Hopefully actor Kurt Russell's rendition of Herb Brook's locker room speech will get you motivated...

  8. 40 miles and a great sunday run this morning! Saw Megan and lots of the girls! Also shout out to Maria and Kaylee for our leg circuits this week after a hot kennesaw mt run. Got bit by a chihuahua on my leg today...don't worry no injuries sustained.

  10. 31 miles for the week. Defintely can't wait for fall when we have those workouts with crisp air that really shows what shape you're in. Right now it feels like I'm running in a cloud, can't tell if it's the 200% humidity or my overreactive/super efficient sweat glands at work.

    If you're new to the blog, tell us more about yourself, we know you are excited for the fall. I'm a third year in BME, I live in Florida 15 minutes from the beach. I LOVE Gouda cheese and blueberries.

  14. 34 last week - a little short because of bad thunder storms that weren't safe to run in.

    Overall feeling great though; knee is feeling better. Talked to Paul and we think it's been originating in my IT band. Bought some resistance bands (hate spending money on stuff that's free at school grrr) and I've been doing some exercises to try and help that out. Icing tons and tons; rolling/stretching like crazy!

  18. A stellar 5 miles for the week. My hip has decided to refuse my severe and desperate desire to run more than 4 miles.... been taking most of the week off, so hopefully that'll do something. If it doesn't I may go crazy. In the meantime I'm back on the beloved stationary bike. At least I have the Tour de France to motivate me through an otherwise horrendously boring workout. Maybe I'll get massive quads like those guys. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! For you injured folks, I hope the aches and pains go away soon! :)

  19. 48.5 too much I know but I took a day off and did all I could.. I was visiting my brother in New York City and we ran together a lot.
    Today at the river I got insanely lost. Like... Thought I'd die out there in the woods. Tried to run 9 ended up with 13 and found out there's a parking lot called sope creek that I have never heard of and hope to never see again without a knowledgable trailsman.

  21. 51 miles last week. The weather has been cooperating well in Northern Michigan which has made for some magnificent running. My long runs have been quick and I have begun pushing the pace on Tuesdays and Fridays to get ready for some midsummer workouts in the coming weeks. I'm glad my good health is persisting in the midst of all the ongoing injuries on our team. Sounds like most people are doing well though, which is exciting and bodes well for the coming year. Stay dedicated even if you are injured!

  22. 3 miles for the past week. First run went well..no unusual pains..second run on the other hand did..Think I'm gonna extend my breaks between runs. On the plus side..it felt good just to get moving again.

  23. 4 miles last week. Got a little bit of a scare when my heel pain turned into looking exactly like bursitis. Fortunately after taking a couple days off and consulting Dr. Peeples, I realized it was the outside of the heel that is inflamed and not the bursa.

    I ran 2 miles while doing running form analysis with Kyle O'Day yesterday and everything felt fine the entire time, but I was a little sore afterwards. I'm going to take a couple more days off just in case and then get back running again. My goal is to get in 15 miles this week and hopefully start ramping back up the mileage again. I literally can't wait for some 80% runs coming up soon. I'm hyped!!!

  24. 29 miles in 5 days. Got sick towards the end of the week and felt terrible, ended up taking Sunday off and did my long run today. Felt much better this morning

  25. 28 this past week, my ankle had been acting up again and I backed off a bit.

    I hit up Barcelona this past weekend and saw Adam. I am really jealous of him, Barcelona is awesome!

  26. 36.5. Cannot wait to see and run with the RACHEL HAMMOND this week!!! I got to run with Kaylee, Morgan, Kelly and Hayley this past week and it was so good to run alongside teammates! I also went on a roomie date with Erin and warned her about Laura and Allison... As much as I could... ;)

  30. That kid's awesome! 38 miles for the week. Everything feels fine, I'm just trying to stay patient with developing an aerobic base. I've been having trouble being patient enough to start runs slow and keep them in that aerobic range, so I've been trying the Kenyan start-painfully-slow-and-slowly-get-faster tactic. Hopefully that will keep working and I'll start to feel more confident in my aerobic fitness.

  33. 44 hot ones. Turns out pterodactyls can't actually fly that fast so as long as I'm moving at a semi-quick pace I'm fine. No wonder the Dinos went extinct.

    Christian, I thought the Kenyan way was start painfully fast and get excruciatingly faster? Or am I thinking of Wegener Wednesdays?

  35. After reading through 48 other blog post, I feel like it is time to leave my mark. 34.7 big ones for me last week according to map my run. Did it in 6 days. My last day off in the build up was this past Sunday. Had a little hiccup a while back and it pushed everything back a little. Everything is feeling solid though. My partner in crime/former teammate Joe Stowe has decided to go MIA on me this summer, so I have been training alone. Been handling it well thus far, but I'm a little worried come workout time. Also, I'm planning on running the peachtree this week. I'll text you coach, so we can talk about a plan for that

  39. 41. I did a group bike ride Tuesday. It's about 45 miles and the race portion averaged about 25mph. I do these every so often in the off season. I feel pretty good. The roller is my friend.
