"Most battles are won before they are fought." - Sun Tzu
Patiently building volume through the summer and training at the appropriately level is the preparation that will lead to a successful fall season. This is the last week of just easy running and building our volume up before beginning the next phase, which will consist mostly of short fartlek-type efforts at xc distance race pace with sufficient aerobic recoveries. Keep working to intentionally add cross-training volume, and sending pictures for the facebook summer roll call. #TSN1920

35 miles last week and 33 miles the week before. Spent the last week in the Mile High City, Denver, CO, which was very fun! Went down to Boulder a couple times and got to see Ellen for a little bit which was very cool - we went into and out of some stores on 16th street which is a great great street if you ask me; lots of live music, some magic acts and lots of ice cream shops which is always a good thing. Didn't quite get a jump in mileage while vacationing there unfortunately but the trip did still make for some very good training and cross training. I had a very very good long run, successfully hiked a 14er which took a little over 6 hours, did about 3 hours of biking, and a little bit of water rafting.
Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make any increases in mileage this upcoming week either because I have to get grafting surgery on two of my teeth tomorrow... Doctors said I should take at least 3 days off of physical activity but recommended 5 days off, so of course I'm gonna aim for the low end of that range and try to start running again on Thursday. So for now I'm concentrating on maintaining my current runs of length 5-6+ miles, then I'll resume with increasing my mileage next week.
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!
48 miles and 1 hour of swimming. The Peachtree was fun but hot. I didn’t run quite as fast as I would have liked to, but I wasn’t being super competitive, though when my high school coach’s wife caught up to me I did my best to stay ahead. I had a good long run today with some current and former teammates and am hoping to meet up with an incoming teammate this week. I’m turning 22 on Thursday so I might have to listen to a certain Taylor Swift song.
42 miles last week. Biking, yoga. Lots of walking too, does that count?
57 miles. I was back in the South for a few days to see family for the 4th. It's hot, but I managed a 14 mile long run in South Carolina this morning.
44 miles last week and 1 hour on the elliptical plus I did some water skiing and tubing which embarrassingly enough made me pretty sore so I’m counting that as cross training too.
52 miles and 50 minutes swimming last week. I've been feeling really good, even if the weather has been pretty dreary.
Additionally, the UL Sport Arena has a shrine to John Treacy, which I found cool. #SteveNOvett
34 miles last week and 38 this week - I stepped on a sea urchin in Barcelona so I thought it best to take it easier until I could get the spines out of my toe but I'm all good now! Knocked out a nice 11-miler yesterday with a quick last couple miles.
60 miles last week. Had Thursday and Friday off work, so it was nice to be able to get some easy doubles in. Been feeling better than I had in weeks past, so incredible gonna add the cross training back in today. I also turn 22 on the same day as the first full volume long run of the year. Couldn’t think of a better bday present!
49 miles last week & a nice bit of walking as I explored Oxford/London. May join a gym to get in some biking for proper cross training the next few weeks. I much prefer aqua jogging/swimming, but all nearby pools have exorbitant membership fees. Dave and I had another good long run Sunday. I'm a fan of long runs that wind up into a quicker last half rather than the ones you blast from the start. Noticed some quad pain Saturday but it got much better after I spent good time stretching post-long run Sunday. Meeting up with Willy White in London this weekend which should be super fun!
24 miles & 2 hours cross training!
37 miles last week and 32 the week before. I just got back from visiting my grandparents in Canada. I did lots of swimming and kayaking around the lake for cross training. I didn't get eaten by the Canadian Loch Ness monster so thats a plus! My runs however didn't go quite as well. The deer flies were out in full force and they were not friendly. Within the first 10 seconds of my runs they would swarm me and more and more would join in on the party as my runs continued. The first day I screamed a lot but I quickly learned to keep my mouth shut after I swallowed one too many. It was absolutely horrible, definitely one of the worst experiences of my life. But I am proud to say that I am the only one in my family who ran everyday (my brother and sister gave up after day 3). Unfortunately now I am covered from head to toe in bites but thank the Lord for Benadryl! Other than the flies, it was a super great trip!
45 miles + 1 hour biking + some yoga! Still feeling good! Headed to Vermont this week for my mission trip so training will probably get a little mixed up but will do my best to get everything in! Also excited for some cooler temperatures for runs :)
43 miles last week. Had another very good long run yesterday - all mileage has been feeling good. I've had to focus on slowing down on runs to not go to fast which I feel like is a good problem to have. Took a weekend trip to London which was fun, especially my saturday run. For some ~background~, my hostel was in Crystal Palace park and they were hosting the London Youth Games. Saturday morning I woke up around 8:30 to go for a relaxing morning run, but I stumbled upon the back of a race that was happening in this park, so naturally I had to race them, and by race I mean like 6 flat pace or something cuz the competition was not particularly fierce. I passed literally hundreds of people while on the hunt for the leaders, but when I got to a huge open field I saw how far ahead they really were and I knew the dub would be practically impossible, but I continued to hawk people down. Towards the end of the race, I was expecting a bigger, or at least more defined finish line than just tape, so I didn't realize I was finishing until like 50 meters before the chute and there was this kid like 20 meters ahead of me and I full on sprinted to duck this man at the line. Unfortunately, they did not have the budget for FAT timing, so when he started wailing to the woman handing out place cards that he was in front of me, I graciously let him have his moment. I finished in 14th (13th) place - a truly surreal and humbling experience. As informal and not serious as this race was, it did make me look forward to being back in the fall for cross even more.
55 miles! I got to see CK, Bean, AND my family last week #bestweekever
62 miles, wasn't able to swim but usually I've been going 1-2 times a week. Headed to Minnesota for 2 days for work but then really excited to get in a month of high miles in Colorado. Cold like Minnesota
38 miles two weeks ago with an hour of biking, and 45 miles last week with a lot of swimming in the ocean and walking on the beach! I couldn't post two weeks ago because I've been in the Outer banks in NC and I barely found any service up there. There were no trails up there, so I did all my mileage on this loooong, flat stretch right by the ocean. Anyway, I'm back in GA for this week then I head up to Brevard, NC to be a running camp counselor for two weeks!
36 miles last week!
57 miles last week and an hour of cross training.
52 miles last week. Shoutout Sun Tzu on another strong quote, that guy was crushing it back in the day. Had a good weekend with Dan visiting from Atlanta and the legend Ryan Peck coming up from San Jose for the 4th. Ryan said he's been averaging about 20 miles a week now that he's retired but he handled our 9 miler like a champ. Started rereading Running with the Buffaloes to get hyped for cross country, so that translated to a hot pace on the long run yesterday, feeling very good. With 3 miles to go a homeless guy took a massive swing at my face so that always helps bring the pace down.
38 miles last week and 1 hour of rowing
48 miles two weeks ago. Only 35 miles this past week due to a last minute flight to Austin and food posioning on Friday
I ran 44 miles last week. I was no soothsayer, because I did not ask off from work on Friday of last week. I saw no fireworks. I saw some kid on the news got to go to the White House because he wanted to mow the President’s lawn. I wanted to as well so I mowed secret messages into my yard, Sunday being my favorite day for this feat. However, the CIA didn’t come knocking on my door; instead, the Neighborhood Board Committee (aka the NeighBOREhood BORED Committee) left a few notes to distract me from this enterprise. Needless to say, my lawn started to turn yellow so those caricatures may have the last say this time. Today, I went to tutor one of my clients and I missed two questions. I kept repeating “Since when is physics on the SAT, and this question was just worded poorly.” Other than that, last week was fine.
45 miles this week. no cross training but i did zipline about 200m in the rain and the shivering in the cold was like an extra workout haha
23 miles last week plus 2 hours cross training. Had a lot of fun running a 5K with a friend on the 4th and didn't do too bad myself. Heading to Florida tomorrow for some time to visit my brother who's training and playing a tournament in Boca. The heat is going to be a challenge, but for the first time since the start of summer our family will all actually be in the same place!
29 mi last week. It's been my second week back, and I'm excited to keep cranking it up. I went to the Finger Lakes for the 4th and got some good runs in on the very hilly country roads, and there wasn't too much roadkill. Now, that I'm back home, I'm running with my high school teammates a lot.
48 miles for last week and 42 mile for the week before! Got to explore with my family the past two weekends in Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands! Training is going well and I'm excited to start doing some faster runs!
45 miles last week, Matthew Munns certified
38 miles last week. Got some sort of food poisoning or something so I had to take a day off and then the next day I took a few miles off as well.
27 last week!
33 miles last week and a whole lot of kayaking. We did a lot of adventuring so a lot of walking too. I did a fun little 3k on the 4th with my family and we were definitely the most spirited. Sunday was a travel day so i wasnt able to get in a long run but woke up early monday morning to go out.
Long over due for a post... Been dealing with some Achilles issues so for the past 3 weeks I've dropped mileage down to 35 and ramped up the cross training to 3-4 hours. It's recovering slowly but surely, so if all goes well I'll try to hit 42 this week.
18 miles running, 12 miles hiking, 30 min rowing, and some yoga. My family came to visit for the fourth, and did a hike along the Pacific called the Lost Coast. The whole thing is a 3 day, 25 mile hike in the total middle of nowhere, but we did an out and back from the south end of it and camped out one night. It was beautiful, I want to do the whole thing someday! I took a few days off from running to be careful with my hip flexor that was bothersome at the end of last week, but four miles this morning felt great, so back to training this week.
44 miles last week with about 5 hours of cross training including a 9.2 mile hike. I have been super busy these past two weeks with no access to a computer due to a vacation and my fathers wedding. I am now free for almost the entire rest of the summer and will not be late on any blog posts from here on out. The wedding was beautiful, almost an hour of swing dancing but I am not sure if that counts as cross training.
59 miles last week
Don't know how to change my name back, so looks like I am Ave da Rave for the rest of time. Oh well.
went 45 miles last week with an 11 mile hike on Saturday instead of running. Decided to make take a last minute trip to Vancouver this past weekend since Mikayla had a half day of work Friday and our boi Matty McB was gone. Ends up British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Mainly went there to hike, but explored the city a bit. Unsurprisingly not that different from any city in America that I have been to.
Running is feeling too good now, but am anticipating that to all change once I get back to real mileage. I am enjoying it while it lasts though.
48 miles last week with an hour on the bike! I traveled to Destin, Florida for the 4th to meet up with my family, so that was fun!
43 miles last week. Roughly three hours of cross training and a dominating game of horse on the court.
36 miles + 2 hrs cross training
65 miles last week and 27 the week before after a few days off post u20 nationals. I was already at full volume before the race so after the break so I felt comfortable getting back at it. Solid 13 mile long run last week and I dropped some uga boys so all in all a success.
45 miles last week, just slightly lower than intended due to having to take an extra day off from a stomach bug :/ but I'm back after it this week. Before the stomach bug it was a really good week though, I met up and ran with Alexandra on Monday and had an awesome time at the Peachtree on the 4th. :) Hoping to meet up with more teammates this week!
38 miles this past week with 20 miles walking around London Saturday because I refuse to pay for transportation. Haven't been able to swim recently because class has gotten very busy, so I've instead done a lot of walking, yoga, and strength for cross training. Hoping to get some more sleep this week before I leave campus for Greece next week.
25mi last week, and feeling good! Got to run with Chloe one day which was great! 31mi bike ride last week, which was nice. Spent the fourth trying to get ride of my bike shorts tan line, but it promptly came back this past weekend (resistance is futile).
24 miles last week plus 2 hours of biking + elliptical. Running in Florida has been pretty toasty and the humidity is nearly twice as much as Cali! Should be heading back home sometime soon and looking forward to the change in training this week!
