summer training cranking up

Great end to the season with a new school record for Billy!  NCAA's is an amazing competition.  This year was exceptional.  Beyond the performances, two social media posts struck me, and are shared below.

This was the race plan posted by the men's steeplechase champion.  Written out earlier in the day, he executed it perfectly.  Putting pen to paper about what you want and plan to do is powerful.

This post was from a high school coach from Texas who was in Eugene to watch the meet.  Here he is taking a selfie at 7:00am on Saturday morning on the trails with freshman Jonathan Sims, who anchored Georgia to the 4 x 400m championship with a huge come-from-behind split of 42.99.  Less than twelve hours later at 7:00am, not only is Jonathan up, he is out hiking trails.  I don't know him, but he seems like someone who is dialed in on who he is and what he wants to achieve.  I hope that describes you and everyone on our team.

Week 3 of summer running.  Just easy, 60-65%, runs for this week.  Next week we'll add one Aerobic Threshold run.  With the annual volume spreadsheets sent out, this week will add strength & conditioning sessions of Tue & Fri.  Do not overdo these sessions... start easy and progress from there.  On Thursday, be intentional about 6-8 x 60-80m hill sprints.

55 miles last week. Having a lot of fun living on campus this summer with most of the guys. Always someone to run with! Build up has been very smooth thus far, excited to add some intensity and some strength work!

31 miles on first week back. Felt good for the most part, but went too fast on Wednesday and felt it for a couple days after. Gotta dial in on effort discipline, but its gonna be a quality summer of heat training!

27 miles this week. Got some great runs in with the guys this week. Usually training alone in the summer so having a group to run with has been amazing. Feeling great and looking forward to the weeks to come.

37 miles last week. Florida was pretty hot and humid last week, so I’m glad to be back home where the weather is a bit more manageable!

Got into a healthy routine of running and recovery. Feeling healthy. Shout out to Billy, he mentioned the technique of taking a cold shower before bed helps with falling asleep during uncomfortably hot summer nights. Getting in the habit of doing this has done wonders for my sleep schedule. Boulder and then Vail this past week. Making my way to Park City, Utah tomorrow.

23 miles last week. Probably the worst 23 miles of my life if im being honest 😂… long run had me dead. Nevertheless, I have been walking so so much in my free time. Clocked in like 15 miles last week. Im honestly a professional walker now so thats cool. Also i started a new job as a Cleaner!!!!

Was told second week at elevation is harder and I definitely felt it. My body is reacting the best it ever has for this volume. Looking forward to add in more quality.
