Fall'19 countdown begins

A  week and a half before we're all back together...

You should have received emails from our Compliance Office and/or Sports Medicine with instructions on how to fill out and submit forms that are needed before you can start practice.  These forms should be completed and submitted by the end of this week.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE FORMS, CONTACT US!

Workouts for this week:

Tue*:  10-12 x 1' @ either 6k or 8k goal pace with 2-3' easy recovery
Fri:  3' + 5' + 3' + 5' + 3' @ ~85%, r= 2' @ ~65%

*make sure you are taking the full recovery and running EASY during the recovery, OR you can run a hill fartlek if you have a hilly route, just run strong up the hill and again make sure you have plenty of easy recovery between.

Things to note (repeated from last week):

*FRESHMEN: will move into your school year housing assignment early when you arrive for the Jump Start Jackets program on Thursday, August 15th.

*UPPERCLASSMEN: should also move in on Thursday, August 15th, and those in on-campus housing will incur early move-in charges from housing that will show up on your bursar's account, along with a credit from the Athletic Association to cover those charges.

*we will have a team dinner late in the afternoon on Friday, August 16th.  Freshmen will participate in the Jump Start Jacket program from early Friday morning through Friday afternoon.

*we will have a team lunch followed by a team meeting on Saturday, August 17th, time - tbd; you should plan on moving your long run to Saturday morning because of physicals on Sunday morning.

*physicals will be on Sunday morning, August 18th, and then we will have our mandatory Compliance meeting on Sunday afternoon, August 18th, in the Edge Athletic Center at 2:00

Most important now is that you are checking your email as you should be receiving information from compliance and the training room to fill out forms online.  It is important that everyone fill out and submit all required forms before arriving back on campus.  If you have any questions, make sure you reach out to someone to get whatever info you need!

First official practice will be 6:00 AM on Tuesday, August 20th!  #TSN1920

43 miles because of a stomach bug that affected me for three days starting Friday. Also 30 min biking and an hour of walking. I got lucky with the beach my family picked to go to last week having a pretty nice running/biking path (Orange Beach, AL).

60 miles this past week. The Brooks beasts were at the dirt track with us Friday when we did the workout. Hopefully we didn't make them feel too bad about themselves with our 1 minute fartliks.

33 miles running, some yoga, some swimming, and a gorgeous 13 mile hike up Mount Hood. Had a great long run with Hana in Portland - we went out for waffles afterward, but no chicken was offered... looking forward to being back!

32 miles this past week + 80 mins stationary biking. Twisted the ol' ankle 4 miles into last Sunday's long run and walked back. Then on Tuesday did the fartlek on the bike. Came back for an awesome workout Friday and a pretty good long run this Sunday too. Happy with how quickly I got back to running and that I didn't lose momentum. 1 week till we head back to Atlanta from Oxford. Not looking forward to the heat but def looking forward to the AC that will cool me down. Get me out of this scholar's paradise and back to the land of Chicken & Waffles and trap.

52 miles, 1 hour on the elliptical, and lots of outdoor activities (kayaking, swimming, etc). Did Friday’s workout as a hill workout and it was harder than it usually is but i felt like it pushed me in a good way. Getting in lots of hills and a nice change of scenery for running. Counting down the days till I’m back in Atlanta!!

I forgot to post on last weeks blog because it was my final busy week of travel. Traced the Mediterranean from Croatia to Italy, Spain, Portugal, and now I'm finally home! 39 miles for two weeks ago with 15+ miles of walking per day as cross training. 45 miles last week, again with lots of walking as cross training. Now that I am home, I am sleeping constantly and trying to recover from my exciting (but exhausting) summer. I had the most painful long run yesterday because my legs are shot, but I feel like I am recovering better each day that I am back! Looking forward to running again without feeling like my legs are going to fall of ;)

46 miles last week, 30 minutes swim, and a whole lot of abs. I've spent the past few days watching videos of Craig Engels and I find it ingenious that he used his mullet to nail a pro contract. Apparently before one of his races he was up against a wall with his hand on a fire alarm, eyes glued to the starter and a smirk across his face. The starter was mouthing "NOOOO!" and Engels was like "I'm gonna do it." Later he said that he didn't really want to run the 3k and that was his only way out (granted he won the race). He also said that the boys at Ole Miss would yell "YEET" after a good workout. By the way, his favorite car is an RV because he is always ready to go. Sorry for my fanboy side notes. He just makes me appreciate the sport even more.

52 miles and two gym sessions last week. Sitting on a plane right now about to leave Sydney! I'll be in new York for a couple days before going to Atlanta so have familiarized myself with all the cookie and cinnamon roll places in NYC... sorry Coach if I leave the big apple a little porky...

40 miles last week. No crosstraining.. Got annoyed with goggles (kept leaking) so decided to take mon off. Last week was so fun, but need to focus more on consistency. Ran 7.5 instead of full long run because tired from lake on weekend. On Thurs took day off because I was tired from camping in North Georgia. So tired that I took a 6 hour nap. More on that - (Weds.) ran 9 miles before leaving and hiked 6 miles (1800 ft elevation change). Found and swam in waterfall. Heard raccoons all night messing with our campsite, then all 5 of us woke up (at 2 am) to my friend Grant having a panic attack in his dream and yelling at top of his lungs. On Friday ran 12 min at 8k goal pace and felt amazing.

46 miles last week, 15 minute abs for 4 days, and 45 minutes of biking. Super happy to be back in the states after a tiring, yet, amazing time in Costa Rica!! Now I’m just surfing, relaxing, and running! Can’t express how excited I am to meet everyone...sorry I have not had the best opportunity to communicate on the blog this summer but keep up the good work!!!

57 Miles this week and 65 miles last week. It was definitely nice to have a slight down week, but I'm glad to be on the grind. Workouts are going pretty well but I'll definitely be happy to get back to campus and have the team to train with. Long runs are getting faster every week and I can feel myself getting stronger.

57 miles last week and a lot of outdoor activities as cross training (walking, sea fishing, etc). Did a lot of traveling last week and was at the beach for the majority of it but was still able to get good workouts in on Tuesday and Friday even though running at the beach sucks.

56 miles last week, and no cross training. Had a great long run to start the week, and Tuesday's workout was solid. I didn't feel as good during Friday's workout, but it was fine. I'm getting more accustomed to the heat, but it's definitely a far cry from Ireland.

In the midst of traveling back to the US last week I forgot to post, so here's last week's log entry:

62 miles and 1 hour swimming. Classes are finally done, and I had a good last long run in Limerick. Got to do my Tuesday workout in Chamonix, France. The altitude was definitely noticeable and it's a bit difficult to find appropriate training venues while traveling, but a good session nonetheless. Friday was also good, and the hostel where I was staying had a nice gym. Got back to the US on Monday [7/28]

49 Miles last week, with a little cross training. Camp was fun, got to meet a lot of other collegiate runners. Interesting to trade stories and training philosophies.

55 miles last week and 2 fitness classes. Since my mileage was lower week before last i did full mileage this week and it felt good. However, running by myself has gotten veeerrryy boring as i've gotten sick of my running playlist and it's such a weird feeling doing workouts alone. Getting real excited to have some running/ workout buddies in 8 days!!

45 big ones last week. Workouts and runs have been feeling good. Last Tuesday (I think) was the first workout I wasn't feeling great, but other than that it's been smooth sailing. As fun as this trip has been, I'm in dire need of some American culture and some Tex-Mex my goodness. Only 3 days until The Return so that's exciting.
