the schedule

Another good jump in mileage for the next two weeks, focus on getting the miles in and don't worry about the pace.  And a note about the Friday strong aerobic runs approaching 80%...you should have a mile warm-up and a mile cool-down, the middle should be run at a strong aerobic effort that approaches 80% for where you are at now, not where you were at during the school year last fall or winter.  The length of time spent at the strong aerobic effort is what we want, so don't worry about what the pace actually is.

And below is the schedule for the fall season...

Sat, Aug 31 - UGA Invitational, Athens, GA
Sat, Sep 14 - Furman Invitational, Greenville, SC
Fri, Sep 20 - GSU Invitational, McDonough, GA (B team)
Sat, Oct 5 - Greater Louisville Classic, Louisville, KY
Sat, Oct 19 - Pre-NCAA Invitational, Terre Haute, IN
Sat, Oct 19 - Berry Invitational, Rome, GA (B team)
Fri, Nov 1 - ACC Championships, Kernersville, NC
Fri, Nov 15 - NCAA South Regional, Tuscaloosa, AL
Sat, Nov 23 - NCAA Championships, Terre Haute, IN

42 miles last week. I was forced, unfortunately, to take Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off because my upper right calf was experiencing a minor setback as the result of falling down while playing frisbee. I was quite disappointed that the aforementioned frisbee accident occurred and it shan't happen again. Make no mistake, my priorities are in order- running has superseded all other physical activities. I believed the frisbee game would be innocuous, but it proved otherwise and I will now take an even straighter and narrower tack. Luckily, I was extremely diligent with my recovery and cross training so if my fitness level took any hit it was minute. My runs on Friday and Saturday were medium effort but proved that my calf was back in action so I will be good to go this week. I still feel that I am in great shape and am getting excited for the upcoming season! I like the addition of Pre-Nats to the schedule, Coach!

50. Had a pretty sunny and hot long run with Sarah this morning at Blanchard. I've been pretty tired this week but I think it's because my wonderful rainy and gray weather is starting to turn sunny and hot. I've been pretty spoiled this summer. For some reason, my left eye won't stop twitching and I think it's because I'm tired but thankfully it's my last week of work! Then I can start running in the morning, which should be nice. Hopefully next weekend I can run with some of you Kennesaw folk because I will be going up there to see the Kenny Chesney concert. It should be fun and a nice break from Blanchard. Wow, I must be feeling chatty today. Hope everyone has a nice week!

41 last week with a day off. I'm in Texas for a family reunion and it is actually better to run in the evening (more humid in the morning, even though it's still 95 degrees+ in the evenings, it's just hot air). I ran around "Memorial Park" in Houston my first 2 days and then drove to San Antonio for a family reunion. Ended up meeting a running group here and they were doing a speed workout yesterday so I joined in with them for a nice tempo and met up with them again for a nice 11 mile run along the river walk (the smell of Mexican food was everywhere and the river walk was empty at 6am). If you've never seen a Texas sunset, you haven't lived. I'm keeping plenty hydrated and can't wait to come back home and get ready for school to start back!

18 for the week. Took a whole week off from Friday-Thursday and it was definitely the right call. Feeling a lot better and mileage will keep going up assuming all goes according to plan.

Shout-out to JWeg who visited me for a few hours on his way home to Jacksonville yesterday, and another shout-out to Ole Maria solely because I'm a fan of the nickname and I'd definitely like to make it stick.

I cannooooot wait for school to start; I miss practice more than anything. You people really mean the world to me!

59 for two weeks ago and 56 for this past week. Sorry I didn't post on last week's blog. I was traveling up to Alabama to work as a counselor at a running camp and we didn't have internet up at the monastery. It was hilly which is a nice change from the monotonous flats of Dirty Duval County: the bang 'em where we hang 'em. EC Gibbs was at camp for a few days so it was cool to swap stories with a pretty successful alum. He claims to be one of the founders of Aqua and Whitemeat. Shout out to Veith, AOC, and Gutierrez for letting me stay with them The weekend before and after my camp. Pulled off the Austin/en trifecta! Got to visit Allison in Savannah on the way back to the D and saved her life from the thief outside her house. Ok I'm exaggerating. But I did assess the situation like a champ.

23 in 4 days. My calf was feeling extremely tight so I was forced to take Wednesday and Thursday off. My running felt really good after that but I unfortunately have some weird inflammation on the lateral side of my heel that I started noticing on Thursday. Its not bursitis and it only hurts when I'm driving and sometimes when I'm walking around. I'm working really hard to continually ice, stretch, and rest as much as possible.

I know I have a long road to be back fully running well again and I believe this is just another bump along the way. My legs feel stronger than they have in a long time and I can't wait til this is all past me. I'm doing my best.

Guess it's about that time to start thinking about school again...unfortunately. Did a ground pounding 47.7 miles last week. Wasn't planning on being over, but I didn't really track my miles until going into my tempo on Saturday. Speaking of Saturday's tempo, it was a great one! Went 6 at 5:46 pace. I was able to meet up with J-Weg and Austen again this week at the river to knock it out. Sadly this weekend, neither of my compadres will be here, so I'll be holding tryout for my workout partner this weekend. If you're interested, you know where you can get me! Also had a pretty successful 5-4-3-2-1 fartlek on Tuesday despite the beyond stressful day at work I had before hand. The hard effort paces were 84's, 82's, 80's, 79's, and 72's, respectly. The steady effort was around 6:00-6:04 pace. Finally, I'm in the process of getting Joe Stowe back in the game, so we tag teamed an 11 miler Sunday at the river yesterday! Excited about my current fitness and I hope to see things continue in the right direction!

THE one and only,

(Lady) Killa

5 miles. Got an MRI last Thursday and the results today. They suspect that I may have a labral tear. Paul is setting up more appt. to run more tests... he said surgery is a possibility, but I really hope it isn't that bad :( I really miss running. At least summer school is almost over.

Hope everyone is doing well and pumped for fall semester/practice to start :)

6 :(. bottom of right foot/ peroneal got really bad. Took off days & started water-running/swimming on 7-21 & then tried to run again on Friday 7-26. A little tight during run, but a lot more pain the next day. Still hurts to walk, so have been water-running. Have been rolling out, ultrasounding, icing, etc. so hopefully will be healed soon. Leaving for tech prep (calculus...) this Wednesday
