counting down

A week until the freshmen return, a week and a half before we're all back together...

This is the last week before we move into a new phase so make sure you follow your plan and let your mileage (and cross-training) lower so that we have a good consolidation week.  If you need some scientific rationale to take an easier week...see SUPERCOMPENSATION

You should have received emails from our compliance office and the Athletic Training room with instructions on how to fill out and submit forms that are needed before you can start practice.  These forms should be completed and submitted by the end of this week.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE FORMS, CONTACT US!

Workouts for this week:

Tue:  5' + 4' + 3' + 2' + 1' @ ~80, 85, 90, 95, 100% effort, all with 2' recovery
Fri:  8-10 x 1' @ either 6k or 8k goal pace with 2' easy recovery

*make sure you are taking the full recovery and running EASY during the recovery, OR you can run a hill fartlek if you have a hilly route, just run strong up the hill and again make sure you have plenty of easy recovery between.

Things to note (repeated from last week):

The rosters on our website will be updated soon, check to make sure your info is correct.

*FRESHMEN: will move into your school year housing assignment early when you arrive for the Jump Start Jackets program on Monday, August 13th.  Any early move-in charges you incur from housing will show up on your bursar's account, along with a credit from the Athletic Association to cover those charges.

*UPPERCLASSMEN: should move in on Thursday, August 16th, and those in housing will incur early move-in charges from housing that will show up on your bursar's account, along with a credit from the Athletic Association to cover those charges.

*we will have our first team meeting along with a required team dinner late in the afternoon on Friday August 17th.  Physicals will be on Sunday morning, August 19th, and then we will have our mandatory Compliance meeting on Sunday, August 19th at 2:00 PM in the Edge Athletic Center.

Most important now is that you are checking your email as you should be receiving information from compliance and the training room to fill out forms online.  It is important that everyone fill out and submit all required forms before arriving back on campus.  If you have any questions, make sure you reach out to someone to get whatever info you need!

First official practice will be 6:00 AM on Tuesday, August 21st!

53 miles last week and 60 minutes of biking. I started workouts last week and felt good. My hamstring wasn't an issue at all in the workouts I'm excited to get some runs in on the beach this weekend

51 miles last week. Top of foot started hurting at work on Wednesday so I took Thursday and Friday off running. Biked for an hour on Thursday and did the Friday workout on the elliptical for another hour of cross training. Back to running Saturday and Sunday feeling better than before, just need to break these new shoes in. Thanks to Coach Megesi for working through that with me. Last long run alone in Alabama is done, can’t wait to be back!

45mi last week for the second week in a row wooooo!!!! Got back from San Francisco yesterday (which, btw, was amazing and I got to do a long run in King's Canyon National Park. It was epic.) probably the most fun I've had in recent memory in terms of a training week. The time change this morning is kind of killing me but it's the last week of the internship! can't wait to be back at school

It flared up on wednesday during the run so i just cross trained on thursday. Figured it might be my old shoes, so im running in a pair of lunar glides i never actually ran in till i get some adidases. It seems to be doing the trick for now. The internship ends this week and i’ll be back in the ATL next tuesday

60 last week. Workouts went well. Like a lot of people, this is my last week interning, and I'll be back to Atlanta Saturday. Very excited to see everyone and have people to run with again.

85 miles last week. Workouts went well which I was actually surprised about. No cross training last week since I ran on Monday. I've been waiting for this down week since I got to full volume. Don't want to sharpen the blade too soon

Had to take Friday off since my foot was hurting, but I tried replicating the workout on an elliptical as best I could. Did 53 this week with 90 minutes biking and 50 minutes on the elliptical.

7.5 hours biking, 1 hour in the pool, and 20 minutes on the alter g at 20%. Big bone scan next week that'll tell if I can do some weight bearing cross training

62 miles, 45 minutes on elliptical, and 30 minutes on the bike last week. Workouts are feeling good. Excited to move in soon!

Still no ground miles last week, but I got in ~6 hours quality cross training (mostly biking), plus the usual strength and core. Runs on the alter-g: 20 min tempo/threshold at 90% bw on Tuesday, and 30 minutes at 90% bw at a more easy/moderate pace on Friday. I am feeling VERY ready considering it's been 17 weeks since hitting the reset button and I hope to set foot on a track this week. 10 days til we're back!!!

77 miles and 91 minutes swimming. Had a great long run this week. Tuesday's workout didn't feel great, but Friday's did. I'm definitely feeling the mileage, so the down week will be much-appreciated. 10 DAYS TO GO!

10 Miles this week! Found that I just have tendonitis in my foot which is manageable. Ran 3 days and walked 8-10 miles every other day because I was at a music festival! Excited to be back! Also 2 hrs of swimming

50 miles last week and 40mins of aqua jogging. Pain in my left foot from a week ago is starting to come back and feel a bit worst than last time. I'm gonna get an X-ray this week just to make sure I don't have any little problems in my foot bones since this issue is now starting to be a lasting thing. Can't wait to be back in the ATL soon!

67 miles and an hour of swimming. I am not a fan of the heat, so running at the beach last week wasn’t ideal, but I’m looking forward to fall weather.

10 whole miles last week at 100%! Feels good breaking into the double digits this week and I even ran 4 miles at 85% on top of it. I did about an hour of biking. My internship ended last Friday, so the weekend entailed a lot of heavy lifting as we moved everything out of my apartment. I'm heading to Florida for this week to relax before coming back to Tech!

Another 58 mile week in the bank. Enjoying some time off from work before school starts. Excited to be supercompensating with some runs on the old trails behind my high school with my former teammates.

Only 43 miles for me last week. :( I really enjoyed my internship and am very grateful to have had the opportunity, but working full time, commuting, trying to get enough sleep, and running was a lot harder for me than I expected (though I am sure it's hard for everyone else too). Last week was my last week of working so I am planning on getting back on track this week and catch up on sleep (as well as do all the fun chores like dentist appointments and packing)

William O'Rielly said...

49 miles last week. Started with a good long run last Sunday and an awesome workout Tuesday, but then I had a tough workout Friday and a really bad long run this most recent Sunday. I also had a tough workout yesterday. I've had a runny nose and sore throat for a few days, so I'm hoping I can chock up the bad days to a summer cold because before that I felt in amazing shape. The big goal now is to get healthy again ASAP so I can keep having those great workouts. Sleep will be a big priority these next few days as well as getting lots of Vitamin C.

40 miles last week and 35 for this week. 2 hrs hiking/biking/swimming for both weeks. Workouts have been going good. I did one of the fartleks on a hilly course which made things interesting. Looking forward to arriving on campus this weekend!

Isabella Bowland said...

I just realized that my mileage from two weeks ago also didn't post (I have been backpacking these past two consecutive weekends so cell service was spotty.) 40 mi for the week before last with ~5 hr hiking as cross training.

38 miles last week. 90 mins swimming. I fell a little short this week because I got sick towards the end, hoping my runs feel a little smoother at this week's end!

Andrew Kent said...

53 miles last week plus a 45 minute swim. The long runs have been going really well

Henrik Anderson said...

43miles this week. I had a day with traveling that made running especially difficult as I was told I could run but actually couldn't. The lower mileage was much appreciated and needed by my legs.
