the summer training assembly line

It's hard to believe we're already on week seven of the training schedule - first full volume week of the new training year!  As we stack week upon week, make sure you are dialing in your training, your recovery, your nutrition, and your sleep.  Everything has to be on point!  Consider these two quotes from former San Francisco 49ers head coach, Bill Walsh, in the book The Score Takes Care Of Itself...

"The culture precedes positive results.  It doesn't get tacked on as an afterthought on your way to the victory stand.  Champions behave like champions before they're champions; they have a winning standard of performance before they are winners."

"In a way, (the summer training) is like an automobile assembly line; it must be first class or the cars that come off it will be second rate.  The exceptional assembly line comes first, before the quality car."

What is the quality of your summer training?  Make it first class!

51 miles last week and 1 hour of biking. Felt really bad last Tuesday on my tempo so I only did 4 miles Easy tempo and took Wednesday and Thursday pretty easy. Must’ve helped because I felt great on Fridays tempo. Expecting to be pretty tired with the high milage this week but I go home today and then drive up to Atlanta on Wednesday so looking forward to having some running buddies!

61 miles. Had a pretty solid week last week, which is something I can't often say as of late. Easy tempo on Friday wasn't super fast given the midday heat (I was lazy and slept in) but I felt smoother than I have before at that pace.

Unfortunately, I started off this week with a rough long run; think I may have been mildly sick (no corona symptoms, don't worry), so I cut it a few miles short. Thankfully, I'm already starting to feel better. Also, I ran a few times with teammates last week and realized how much easier it is to run with company. I know people have been working out together early morning at the river, so I'm gonna start doing that if possible. Besides that, I'm committing to stretching/rolling more and watching what I eat, especially the day before workouts/long runs.

Also, I'm heading up to HHI for a week on Friday. IDK if Josh reads the blog but I'm gonna pester him into running with me before work every morning.

40 miles last week! Happy to finally hit 40 for the first time & I had two good but hard tempos. Ashley came out to the long run last Sunday so it was fun to finally have one of the new people come hang :) Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe! Also Coach Drosky swung by CFA to say hey so that was exciting! Have a great week - I believe in you y'all!

55 miles. I’ve been running with some friends which always makes it better. I also got pretty lost on one of my runs this week but found some new routes. My brother just got back from his friends wedding in Florida, where he said people weren’t really taking much precaution. Hopefully I wont contract the rona

42 miles + some yoga and core so a little short of my mileage goal because of my mission trip (which was SO fun) but decided that sleep and recovery was more important for the week. Had a good long run with Nicole yesterday (shoutout to her for biking with me the last few miles once she hit her mileage- really helped!). Excited to have my first full volume week! Really starting to get excited for the Fall!

Finished up the week with 48 miles. Had a solid few tempos, especially on Friday. Need to focus more on recovery and sleep. Started my first full-volume week with an unfortunately rough long run. Was not feeling my best by any means but still got all the miles in with Tristan. Gonna take Monday to recover and then have a solid week of training.

44 miles and a couple hours of biking last week. The beginning of the week was a little tough because I had to adjust to some changes in my routine while on vacation, but I had a really smooth 6 mile tempo on Friday and a great long run yesterday! My dad has also been able to bike with me some which helps me feel less lonely haha. I am looking forward to the first full mileage week and am hoping to NOT get stung by any more jellyfish (2 stings already :/).

26 miles last week and the week before. I’ve been having pretty bad Achilles pain, hence the lower mileage, but have been feeling better these past couple of days after taking time off last weekend/beginning of the week. I was able to do my long run yesterday which was exciting! Doing lots of yoga and strength since hiking/biking bothers my heel and I do not have pool access for swimming :/ I’m hoping things will continue to improve this week, and I’ll be able to start increasing my mileage again/ get in some solid tempos.

55 miles last week plus 1 hour of biking and lots of strength/yoga/recovery! I had a great long run with some homies at the river, but then I felt AWFUL on my Tuesday tempo so I just took that run easier. I felt good the rest of the week and had a great tempo on Friday(prob because Abby biked with me the whole way :)). Super ready for the first week of high mileage!

What’s up lads. 53 big ones last week plus an hour biking. Weather’s pristine early in the morning and later at night. I was in a standoff with a gator this past week on Friday’s tempo. It was like that scene in the Sandlot when the massive dog just stares at Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez. I was like “yeet” and I turned around before it got the best of me. Wasn’t worried though because I would have just out-slant-ran him anyways. Sorry if my the laugh factor has been lacking on my comments lately, will continue to monitor that. Salt water before runs has been helping.

I ran 42 last week with some biking as cross training. My tempos felt good, but I couldn't have done them without Clay McKnight pushing me the whole way. She has been a huge help in my running these past few weeks. I have really enjoyed running our tempos together! I can't wait for my first full volume week!

44 miles + indoor biking, yoga. I didn't get to swim last week because the pool was closed for maintenance, but it opened back up yesterday! Friday's tempo was one of my strongest so far, and I'm carrying that energy with me into this first full volume week. I hope everyone has a great week!

62 last week. I just rode a Peloton for the first time and the instructor was a former Georgia State cross country runner, which I thought was pretty cool

48 this week. Everything going well, took monday off cross training but still doing core almost everyday. Had a good weekend at my brothers house and he rode his bike with me on my 12 miler. At 4 pm too, so it was quite toasty. It was a good grind though. Training still going well and going to get soft tissue massage this week.

Been running alone a lot lately so that 47 last week was rougher than I wouldve liked, but my legs etc feel good at least. Kinda hype for the first full volume week since mid-october(?) ill have to verify that. Might run up Mount Yale (14199 ft) to celebrate

26 miles for me! Sundays long run started at 100% humidity but it was 95% by the end so that was good I guess! so excited for Claire to come back to ATL and to see everyone soon!

51mi. Rolled my ankle out pretty good a week and a half ago so I spent time this week easing back into the workouts and runs. Solid tempos last week; I've been running early at 6-7am with Myles but somehow it's still 85° with 100% humidity. Can't really expect anything less for GA weather though. Good sessions all around: ready to hit the crank this week.

Only 2.5 hours of cycling this past week. My back unfortunately spazzed out in the middle of the week and I had to take a few days off to recoup. The sports medicine people I am working with are currently having me test for possible stress fractures. I got x-rays done and everything looked good! But now I need to get an MRI done on my back and bone scans on my feet. Unfortunately, the earliest I can get those done is July 16, so looks like more cycling for another 3 weeks. Going to continue to do what I can! Cycling, strengthening and stretching!

59 miles last week and 57 miles for the week before. The runs are feeling pretty good. Started waking up earlier to beat the Atlanta heat

32!! And I did a 9 mile long run this past sunday and enjoyed it! I wasn't going very fast but that made me feel like the higher mileage is doable for me.

10 miles last week, that's double digits! Doing core, strength work, and rehab exercises everyday and trying to be smart about this comeback

I hit 62 miles last week. I had a really solid week. School was also very laid back so I had some free time to do a little bit of golfing and wakeboarding. I constantly feel tired while my body adjusts to the mileage, but hey that's part of it. I am making an effort to get back on a good sleep schedule and find the motivation to push through these last couple of weeks of school.

Hi! This is a little late but wanted to say HEY and give an update. Boot progression s on a roll but had a setback so we slowed it down a lil bit. I am swimming LOTS and will be fully out of the boot and ready to bike by next weekend. Also, we have a small goal to be running by the end of July so let's hope all goes according to plan. Miss you guys:)

Hey team! 48 miles last week and 45 minute swim. Tempos have been feeling great, and this week will be the most miles I have ever run in one week which is cool! Btw thanks Katy you are the sweetest!! However, for future reference, you guys may want to think twice before hiring Katy babysit. This morning she told me that the dog she was pet sitting bit the kid she was babysitting this weekend.

48 miles last week. Was coming off some stomach issues that were forcing me to cut mileage down but I’m better now and getting back into it.

Bit late on this one but better late then never! 50 BIG ONES last week and workouts went well. Getting in a good routine of waking up early to run before work so the 7am fall isn't gonna be too hard to adjust to.

Little late posting but I ran 64 miles last week and did an hour on the elliptical. Both tempos went well and the full volume week so far has also been good.
