sizzlin' summer

Wow, it's hot! This weather certainly makes running a challenge. Hopefully you are able to run early in the morning or early in the evening. Keep in mind, though, how high heat and humidity are going to affect how you feel. Make sure you are consistently hydrating well. But the heat and humidity are going to elevate your heart rate and because of this, your 80-85% efforts will need to be a little slower so that you don't push into the anaerobic zone. As we have mentioned many times, pay attention to EFFORT, not pace. Run the right effort.

Also, expect a little more fatigue than you would generally associate with the mileage level you are running, again due to the heat and humidity. And this type of weather can wreck havoc on your iron levels.

Everyone seems to be doing very well with the summer schedule. We're only missing weekly reports from a very small number of individuals. As each week goes by, you are laying the foundation for some exciting things to come. Take it one week at a time and make each week count!

Now, post your weekly running to the comments, and go take your daily iron supplement :)

47 this week!! Finally getting up there kinda. Did a 10 mile long run, a 10 1-minute on 1-minute off fartlek, and a 2 mile 80% run for my first one because of the humidity/I'm not trying to pass out. The long run definitely felt best this week though. Hope everyone is doing well!! Miss you guys!!

50 this week with a 10 mile long run, a fartlek, and tempo run in this crazy heat! hope everyone's having a great summer!

71 miles for the week. Long run was 14 at 6:08. It felt like the appropriate effort (75%) when I was running it, but by Friday's tempo run I realized it probably wasn't, so I'm taking this week more conservatively.

50 this week. Had to take a day off for a sore achilles, so I didn't hit mileage. It's feeling better now, though.

40 this week due to sickness I took a day off and tried to catch up with a two-a-day which killed my legs because I wasn't fully recovered from the illness. However earlier in the week I went for two long runs bak to bak 10 and 8 miles and it felt like nothing which is impressive for thehilly terrain I was covering so I'm feeling pretty strong right now.

the week started off great with a nice 10 mile run and then an 8 mile run....then I rolled my ankle...at first it was fine and I ran three more miles on it..then it got really sore that night and the next day..I had to take two days off which put me behind...plus I could not run as many make-up miles as I wanted to because my ankle got sore from the pounding :(
I hope this week goes better and I will try to make up the miles

58 for the week. I didn't feel so great this week, the heat and higher mileage made a couple runs slower than I wanted them to be.

18. Achilles issues flared back up @ 80% effort. Stretching, rolling, doing the exercises, and just got my hands on some new anti-inflammatory meds. Yesterday (Monday) went well, so things are looking up.
