TSN1920

Since school is out, at least for all of those not in summer school, this is an educational blog post.

First a reading assignment, two great paragraphs below from "Can't Hurt Me - master your mind and defy the odds", by former Navy Seal David Goggins.  If you are looking for a summer reading assignment, I would highly recommend this book.  These two paragraphs are outstanding!

Second is a listening assignment, a Final Surge Podcast from last December.  It is forty-eight minutes long but definitely worth it.  It will help you understand the process of training.

46 miles last week. Feeling very solid even as mileage is starting to get up there. Remembered on Friday that the Pre Classic was gonna be at Stanford this year (I heard that a few months ago but didn't put it together that I'd be right down the road) so I went, and it was awesome. Also, I'm very interested in what the latest hashtag stands for. I'll bet on the 1920 part meaning the 2019-2020 school year. I also like the part of the reading where he says to "take your opponent's soul", so I hope it means like Take Souls Now 2019-2020. That would be scary for our competitors. Maybe I have to listen to the podcast. Tom Schwartz Nation 2019-2020.

46 miles and 1 hour cycling last week. I've definitely had to resist the urge to go excessively fast, but I suppose that's a good predicament to be in.
The weather has been favorable, and this is turning out to be an awesome place to run.

43 miles last week. Paris wasn't great to run in but Dave and I got it done. Antwerp was a bit better.

Kind of a cool long run story though (not as good as Avery's last week but good nonetheless): After a long day of travel yesterday (6AM wakeup call), Dave, myself, and our travel group arrived at Oxford around 4PM, much later than we thought. We had mandatory orientation and dinner right then, so Dave and I were annoyed cause we knew we'd be running later than planned. Ended up finding some park type place called Port Meadows on google maps that was a mile away and decided to run there, starting our run at like 8:45pm. We get there and it's something out of a painting or a picture book, probably the most beautiful place I've ever run (sorry SMRC trails I still love you). There were miles and miles of rolling dirt hills between trees, bushes, and fields. We weren't really sure what to expect pace-wise, because there have been days this month where 6:50 feels easy and days where 7:30 feels hard just due to our exhaustive travel schedule and all the different places we've been. But I look at the watch at around mile 3 and see we're already going like 6:35s or so. Unfortunately my watch ran out of battery at mile 6 so the last 5 miles of that long run are stuff of legend now but we gradually turned up the intensity over the rest of the long run and still held conversation without much trouble. Felt smooth and strong. Overall it was just an amazing long run that reassured Dave and I that we're both still in shape and the spark is still there. Can't wait for the next few weeks of training.

54 miles last week. Traveled to Houston for an intern conference on Wednesday, which made some of the runs later in the week harder. Long runs in this weather have gotten to the point where they’re battles no matter how slow I run. Gotta focus on my recovery, mainly sleep, and remember why I’m in the fight when it’s tough like this!

38 miles this past week. Ronan and I managed to literally get one of the last dorms, but we had to settle for a suite-style room in Woodruff North. Since all of the doubles were swept early, it’s the next best situation. I think it’s pretty cool that one of the roommates in the room adjacent to our shared bathroom is from Trinidad and Tobago.

I'm living with some girls on the University of Colorado lacrosse team. Sam, Andrew, and I ran at Magnolia Road yesterday (which is hilly and really high up). When I got home, I was telling the lacrosse girls about it, and one of them was like omg I want to run there, so she drove 30 minutes to vomit in the pouring rain 2 out of 3 miles in. About to send her the David Goggins paragraphs

39 miles for last week + 1 hour of cycling. Good week of running except for all the snakes I keep finding on the trails I run on haha.

20 miles last week + 2 hours of cycling and elliptical and 3 gym days. Great week of training back from Japan and just grateful for no injuries!

These past two week have been chaotic with finals, travel, and a heat wave! France is having the hottest summer since 2003 and temperatures are ~103+ (w/no AC), so I've been running at 5am when its the coolest: only 80 degrees! I realize I forgot to post last week. Mileage was 28 and then 33 with 1 hour swimming + 2 hour yoga/ strength both weeks.

38 miles last week and 90 minutes of cross training. Aside from the heat being deadly, running feels good and I’m working on finding more people to run with. However there is absolutely no elevation changes here, and all my runs are so flat. The hills are going to kill me when I get back to Atlanta.

37 miles. Sucks for all you people in the south right now, my weather has been absolutely perfect, and I’m already spoiled. It’ll suck for me when I get back tho, rip

50 miles. Ran with @10k__terry (tanner anderson) again on Sunday. Pride parade livened up the streets of Seattle yesterday.

31mi last week, which is 9mi higher than it should be. I've decided to switch my long run to saturday and start biking on sunday, that way my legs won't be toast for long run (that 48mi bike ride last week really took a toll on sunday). because of that, no biking "last week", but got a ride in yesterday so that'll go on next week's total. my long run last sunday was super fun though! got to check out some new mtb trails finally and they were perfect for a long run :) not much else happening. excited for the fourth this week (watermelon!!!)
also i've been powering through some podcasts at work so i'll definitely give the recommended one a listen.

33 miles last week. I feel good when I wake up at 5 am to run before work, but on the weekends when I get to sleep in a little the heat has been killer. I enjoyed the podcast, I will keep rolling my snowman like he says

42 miles and an hour of biking last week. Got to see Nicole, Hailey, Gabby, and Drosky yesterday and run a few miles with Coach C-D. I’m excited for the Peachtree but nervous for the heat. Hopefully those paragraphs will run through my head during the race. I started my volunteer position as an ESOL teaching assistant at the IRC today and I’m pretty excited about it.

40 miles last week. Did a 9 mile hike instead of running on Saturday. My summer job so far has been walking dogs which requires biking up and down some serious hills in transit. That has definitely counted as 30 minutes of daily cross training whether intended or not. Meeting more and more runners in town which is always good too.

25 miles last week and a solid first week back. As expected, I didn't lose much in a week off, and I'm excited to keep working the mileage up to catch up to where everyone else is. I need to find more routes around my house to run.

50 miles last week. Reading these study abroad posts has me thinking back to last summer. Have fun but keep that ball ROLLIN. If you're at GTL I highly recommend running on the golf course

27 miles last week and 2 yoga classes. I’ve started doing some runs on this trail at Skyline Wilderness Park, which has a beautiful view of vineyards and mountains from the top. The hills are an adjustment but it’s worth it for the views and training benefits they bring!

20 miles last week + 20 minute swim, 40 minute Bike. Took a few days off because of slight metatarsal pain from wearing pair of shoes with tight toe box. Def not wearing them anymore... Feels fine now. And sorry for the late post too.

Also did an hour on the elliptical last Monday. Took yesterday off of cross training since I felt so rough on Sunday.

Hi! So sorry for the late response. I am currently up in Maine and there is very spotty cell service. 29 miles last week and an hour in the water. I had orientation last week and it was so surreal thinking that I am actually gonna be a yellow jacket in the fall!

37 miles last week. Forgot to post before now cuz it's been a busy week starting second half of classes at Oxford. Made it through travel portion so the hard part of getting running in is done. The plague has subsided and the persistent cough no longer persists, so runs are feeling much better. Good long run with William (you can read his novel at the top of the comments if you're interested)

44 miles last week, mostly on the treadmill due to the crazy heat conditions at the bottom of Florida and lots of biking around the island. Happy to be back running on real land this week but missing all the good seafood and manatee watching. :)
