coaching philosophy

Heading into the second week of the new schedules...another week of just light running to allow yourself to adjust to training again.  So with not much training-wise to include in the blog post, we thought we'd take an opportunity to share with you a little about our coaching philosophy!  We have a number of musicians on the team, including several of our incoming freshmen, so we'll use a Ted Talk as our vehicle.  We hope you'll invest twenty minutes to listen, but also have included the relevant notes (no pun intended) below.  Click on link to play!

Benjamin Zander - The Transformative Power of Classical Music

NOTES (time remaining in video):

(14:13) "It is one of the characteristics of a leader that he not doubt for one moment the capacity of the people he is leading to realize whatever he is dreaming."

(3:11) "The conductor of an orchestra doesn't make a sound. He depends for his power on his ability to make other people powerful."

(2:46) "My job is to awaken possibility in other people."

(1:50) "Definition of success - how many shining eyes do I have around me?"

(0:40) "Vow - I will never say anything that couldn't stand as the last thing I ever said."

What's up everyone, hope all is well. I had a nice first week back running. Tracks being closed have negligible effects on training for cross country anyways. I did a beach run at Cape Canaveral this past weekend and that was a lot of fun. Consider joining the GT distance squad on Strava because you can see how some of your teammates are doing on their runs. I reckon my runs will get more exciting once I have longer mileage days where I can go out to cool places like the clay loop and some of the tallest mountains in Florida like Sugarloaf, a whopping 312 feet above sea-level and the fifth tallest point in Florida. I did 25 miles.

24 miles last week along with some biking and core/strength. Excited to be back writing blog posts! Forgot how HOT Florida is so I have to get up so early to avoid the heat as much as possible.

29 miles last week. Didn't bike last Monday but will do it today and in the future. Will probably start at 30min and move up to 45/60min as mileage goes up. I have an elliptical at home as well, but it's broken for now :( Will probably add some core stuff in this week, as that is one of my weakest areas I can improve on. Also currently trying to improve my sleep schedule. I'm working from 9 to 5, so I'm probably going to start getting up at 7am to run. If I can get into that routine, morning practice in the fall should be no problem for me.

21 miles and 2 hours of cross training (mostly elliptical) for my first week back. I also started tracking my hydration to make sure I am getting enough fluids in as it starts to get hotter. So excited for this build and so pumped to be a part of this team!

Finished up with 23 miles this week. It was nice to start off with low mileage and gradually build up to something more. Biked a little and did a good amount of core exercises as well. Need to focus on consistency and getting my runs in earlier in the day.

26 last week. Nice first week back. Had to wake up at 4 am to get my run in before a long car drive to Florida but it was worth it

33 miles last week :)

And for those who have not heard, I’m not trolling BuzzRuns - my start date was pushed back to January so I’m coming back for a Master’s!

22 miles last week along with 1.5 hours of mountain biking and core Monday-Friday. All runs were smooth and easy. I’m finding lots of cool new places to run. Going to have get to bed earlier with my new work schedule so I’ll be ready to go for some morning runs. Can’t wait to join the team and meet everyone this fall!

22 miles last week. Some knee pain reminded me that I have to keep doing PT exercises, but otherwise, felt great. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

21 miles last week and a good amount of hiking as cross training. Went snowshoeing on Monday to a lake that was still frozen over, just your typical summer day :) I have to say I am loving the cooler climate for my runs though.

13 miles last week! Felt good to be back - standing all day at work started making my legs achey and running again really helped loosen em right up! Y'all come visit me at CFA west midtown :)

20 miles last week and 20 minutes of a hard effort on the bike. 2020! Ha! I just realized that.

It has been good to be getting back in the swing of things. I am looking forward to another fantastic year of training.

One step at a time.
Brick by brick.

Happy to get back into shape again! Ran 27 miles last week in pretty good weather as well. I ran with Nick and Zach a couple times which made my runs a little more enjoyable. Hope everyone is doing well and I’m excited to see everyone’s progress during the summer!

35 last week. Welcome freshmen! I'm getting old but more excited than ever for this team. Get your tickets now because something tells me this fall is going to be an absolute BLOCKBUSTER

17 last week. Had to drop online classes because they were way to hard. Biked an hour yesterday on roads and have been doing retro 8 min core workout almost everyday. Lets get after it!

24 miles last week. I hope y'all are as PUMPED as I am for the upcoming fall!

Workin' at the whole foods in chamblee this summer, so stop by and come say howdy!

Little late on the post, but hello all and welcome freshman! Andy said it best. I'm getting old but more excited than ever for this team. Amazing opportunities await in the upcoming cross season. One team, one goal, Nationals! We can do this and it takes every person to accomplish such a feat. Be intentional, always aim for improvement and most importantly, enjoy your training, enjoy success and history in the making!

Besides all that, I ran 18 miles last week. Ashley wanted me to do my initial week of running only at 3 miles max until my lower back feels good while running. And I'm happy to say the past couple runs have felt great! Finally getting back to better. I will go for some longer runs this week, focusing on steady improvement day-to-day. I was able to find a chiropractor that was open and have been seeing him, he's been doing wonders for me, and I will continue seeing him once a week moving forward.

Hi! It has been so long since I've posted on this haha. I don't have any running news to share, but I got off my crutches this week! So, a step in the right direction. Have also been doing a lot of one-legged strength exercises such as core and upper-body strength. Reading these posts make me sad, because I so wish to be running along side y'all! Only a few more weeks though! Miss everyone so much and can't wait to meet all the new freshmen!

26 miles last week. Got cut short cuz of wisdom teeth surgery on Friday so I haven't run in a couple days. Face is looking like an Amazon box at the moment but I haven't had much pain so that's been good. Looking to get back out ASAP so I have as much time as possible to get ready for the fall!
