almost here

Workouts for this week:

Tue: 5' + 4' + 3' + 2' + 1' @ ~85% w/ equal time recovery @ ~65%
        OR 75% Easy Tempo run
Fri: 10-12 x 1' @ either 6k or 8k goal pace with 3' easy recovery

*make sure you are taking the full recovery and running EASY during the recovery; you can follow the structure of the above workouts, OR you can free fartlek them by just running up to one minute efforts at goal race pace followed by sufficient easy recoveries for forty minutes or more, OR you can run a hill fartlek if you have a hilly route, just run strong up the hill and again make sure you have plenty of easy recovery between.

It's hard to believe that in less than two weeks our incoming freshmen will be on campus and in about two and a half weeks, we'll all be back!  Again, upperclassmen should make plans to return to campus on Thursday, August 13th.  More info will be sent regarding our first team meeting, compliance meeting, and physicals...stay tuned and make sure you are checking your email!

May or may not have been refreshing the blog all night to be sure I remembered to post on time 🤫 63 miles this past week! MC has been coming up to Braselton for work so we’ve been running the Tuesday and Friday workouts together which has been super fun! I can’t believe we are only a couple weeks from everyone being on campus again, I’m so excited to be running with the whole team! Hope everyone has a great last 2 weeks of summer!

46 miles, 2 hours of biking, and a couple hours of pickleball with Hannah. Besides the one game where she beat me 11-0, I’d say we’re a pretty even match. Can’t wait to be back in a couple weeks!

58 miles last week. Flying out to Montana tomorrow so super excited to get to run at some cool places and enjoy a little vacation before school starts! I ran the Friday workout with Kenna which was so nice to have someone to run it with. Finally feel like I’m really adjusted to the high milage weeks and feeling really good all around.

Finally up to 40 miles!!! This week was the best I have felt all summer-- I've been adding more electrolytes to my water which has really helped me to stay hydrated throughout the day. 2.5 hours of swimming and lots of core. Can't wait to fly down to Atlanta soon!!

57 miles + 2.5 hours swimming/cross training. Tuesday’s workout was a little rough but things cleared up by the end of the week and I’m feeling a lot better! Excited to be back to campus soon & see everyone :)

65 miles last week. I think my body is getting used to the mileage, since I don't feel exhausted and constantly hungry like I was for the past few weeks. Most of the aches and pains I have been getting in my feet have dissipated, as long I don't walk around barefoot, which is hard for me. the fact that I have two weeks left is stressing me out, but I'm looking forward to training with ya'll!

56 last week. Workouts have been feeling good so far and had a good long run yesterday. Braeden was gettin a lil antsy to start picking it up yesterday so I joined him and we GASSED the last 4 miles of the run. Well we didn't GAS gas the run but it was some tasteful up tempo that wasn't too hard of an effort but definitely got the legs moving

EDIT: 59 BIG ONES last week. Biggest mileage week I've done in years lol

60 miles last week with some biking. Missed some mileage from last week's long run as well as from this recent Saturday due to thunder/lightning.

Thankfully, after the not-so-great long run I mentioned in last week's post, this week got better and better. Had a pretty good Tuesday workout and a great Friday workout with Knox. During yesterday's long run I also found myself with David and Braeden at 4 miles to go. I hung for maybe a mile or so until they dropped me. I was still moving fast until half mile hill, though. Been a minute since I've felt that good on a long run!

50 miles and a 2 hour hike last week. Started going to sleep a little earlier and am made sure to stretch/roll/do resistance band exercises every night, so I'm I'm still feeling pretty fresh even after two weeks of full mileage. Hard to believe that move in is less than 2 weeks away!

62 miles. Wasn't the easiest week. My friends and I have conflicting work schedules so I've been running alone almost every day now. Nonetheless, I'm feeling good and really excited to come back and see everyone. I also went camping on the beach with some pals last week and we had a great time. One night there was a huge windstorm that started ripping our tents from the ground so we quickly stuffed everything in the car and went to help the people struggling around us. Many of their canopies had been ripped apart so we tried to salvage them and save their tents. Luckily, it died down eventually and not everything got destroyed.

55 miles and 1.5 hr elliptical last week. I had a really great workout with Claire on Friday at the river. I've been prioritizing stretching and tracking my hydration these past few weeks. I'm so excited to move in!! Looking forward to finally giving my graduation speech this Saturday at the ceremony! Hope everyone has a wonderful week :)

60 miles last week. This past week I've started to focus on building up speed as well as aerobic fitness this summer. I felt as though I could have used some more strength and speed during indoor last year, so I am striving to not neglect that aspect of training this year. Nothing crazy, but a couple minutes of jump rope as well as hills and strides is the goal each week. Workouts have been going well and so have the longer runs. I've been fortunate to find some people to run with on those days. Been reading for the first time in awhile and last final is tomorrow. Yearning for a break from schoolwork.

40 MILES :) I’m getting used to the mileage and it’s become more of leisure running (except for those workout days lol)! I’ve been hanging out around NY for a little bit, so I guess extra walking has been my cross training for this week. It’s super fun to find a new track/ trail to run on everyday. My fam goes on the adventure with me sometimes, and my sister even ran the workout with me. I’m excited to be back soon and move in!!

63 miles! Ran into Nicole on Tuesday so we did the workout together and it felt pretty good! Then, I visited my friend in Hilton Head and it was super humid and hot there, but at least it was flat. I got in a lot of paddle boarding in the ocean and biking for cross training. Also, we went fishing and I caught a baby shark! Cant wait to be back on campus with everyone :)

55 miles this past week. Tuesday fartlek and Friday tempo went well. Starting to run in mornings more and getting used to it. Tired of not being with the team.

84 big ones, feeling really good and it sounds like everyone else is too. People keep asking me about our team and I tell them could be the best ever. My sister is joining me this week for the great migration back to the 404

55 miles last week. Went camping at Devils Lake State Park in Wisconsin with my brother and a friend. We did about 5 hours of really scenic hiking while we were there. Had pretty decent workouts, too. I like running fast again.

63 BIG BOIS last week- highest mileage since senior cross. Atlanta weather has been a bit rough recently even in the early mornings but we do be getting this work done. Finally done w my summer class so gonna really enjoy these last few weeks of freedom before school ramps up again. Can’t wait to see the team together again- it’s crazy to think it’ll have been nearly half a year by the time we meet again

50 miles and 3 hours of hiking and some core this week. This was my highest mileage week ever, so I'm really excited about that. Beginning to finally feel loose and run smoothly again after working my mileage up to now. At the beach, and the humidity is killer, but I'm beginning to adjust for the time being. Cant't wait to finally get on campus this year and meet everyone!

Mari Cagle said...

50 miles + swimming last week! I was in Florida for most of the week, so I had some hot and humid runs (also flat though). I chose the easy tempo on Friday since I did the fartlek the week before, and both workouts went really well. I’m super excited to come to campus in just 11 days!

Braeden Collins said...

61 miles last week. Workouts have been pretty good, and I'm slowly getting used to running fast again. Decided to pick up the pace a little at the end of my long run Sunday for the first time since spring. It went well, even though the Kennesaw hills felt a little longer than I remember.

Isabella Bowland said...

36 miles + 1 hour swimming last week before I strained my back on Thursday. I haven’t been able to run since then but hopefully will be able to by the end of this week. Hope everyone’s staying safe and healthy!

51 miles last week. I stayed with my brother in Atlanta so I got to run in Piedmont Park and on the beltline which was a lot of fun. I am very excited to be back on campus in a couple weeks and looking forward to meeting the new freshman soon!

Nothing this past week besides rehab for my shoulder and other stretching / exercises that I could do. Good news is that the shoulder healed a tremendous amount the last 2 days of last week so I can return to biking this week. Ashley gave me a weekly rehab program that I will be following as well. Happy to be back to training and getting better!
