Sorry for the late post on week one. Congrats to EC and MK for the advancement to the NCAA East Regional and congrats to EC for advancing to the upcoming NCAA Championships!
Summer 2009 training has arrived! Twenty-seven men and eighteen women begin the conditioning phase for fall semester. One of the twenty-seven men, incoming SR, will compete at his state meet this weekend, then take a short break before starting.
Hopefully, by now, you have read through the spreadsheet tab 'SUMMER NOTES'. If not, please make sure you do as soon as possible. While very similar to previous versions, the NOTES have been updated.
The first two weeks should be easy weeks, just getting back into the swing of things. Don't push the pace on your runs, just get back into a rhythm of training. Your Monday easy fartlek should consist of running your daily mileage with at most a few pace changes, just a few pick-ups or surges. Your Wednesday threshold run should just be at most an uptempo run, don't worry about reaching a true anaerobic threshold pace...yet. And your Saturday long run should be at an easy pace, just get the mileage in.
Finally, to emphasize again, hit YOUR weekly mileage target. And men should email their totals to COACH, while women should email their mileage to ASST COACH.
Happy Running!

Looks like the Peachtree Park Running camp needs to back off a little then for next week... I know an email has already been sent out, but a few of the guys have been meeting to run at 8:30 in the morning every day. If any one else is interested just call or email me.
34 for the week. Feels great coming back.
unfortunately i wasn't able to run this week because of my ankle but it is feeling much better and i will be starting back running tomorrow. i would love to partake in the PPRC (Peachtree Park Running Camp) but ive got work starting at the same time so ill be at the river at 7 if anyone wants to join give me a call 678-468-4876. cant wait to get started.
47 and feelin good-doin the little things
30 miles. Feels better than a first week ever has.
40. 2-3 steady runs the rest were easy
This was my first week out of the boot and running. I only ran 6 miles for the week but I've been cross training to supplement.
36 miles, all but 4 with Joe. Feeling a little out of shape, but better everyday
26 for the week. Felt pretty good.
36 for the week. felt good no problems yet.
34. all is well.
26. Feels good getting back into it.
26 felt good for week 1
29 miles this week. Been doing the summer camp thing everyday so that is working out pretty well
Freshmen include a little somethin about yourself in your post.
brownie points if it's something special
this was my 4th week back since my track season ended early, so i had 48 miles for the week. i did a tempo run tuesday, which was my first faster effort of the summer, and felt awful!! but i did a fartlek on friday and felt much better. long run was 11 mi.
I hope everyone's having a good summer so far!!
the big 17 for my first half-week back..felt pretty good legs a little tired though. hope yall are doin well..and just wondering if the peachtree park running camp is giving out summer t-shirts?
and can someone post where you can watch ec's race online?
28 miles last week, felt great besides day 1, but that was only due to an epic struggle with my bathroom schedule (I will not elaborate) during the run. I'm a member of the peachtree park running camp as well. Freshmen, I recommend you listen to the Gary (Garad).
as felicity said, this is my fourth week back too! i did a tempo effort last week that felt pretty rough it mightve been too much too soon. i got in a long run at kennesaw that turned out a little over 9. weekly total was 43.
i ran the big 17 like mary kate but i'm sure mine wasn't as fun as hers. i was in puerto rico with the family last week and where we were staying it was not safe and my parents would not let me run outside up and down random streets so i had to do my running on a treadmill. so i but at least they had tv's.
37 miles. Felt good. 3 miles uptempo Wednesday. 4 half mile pickups Monday.
24 for last week. after the first couple days it felt good sorry i'm just now posting
27 for the first week. felt ok actually; i was kinda surprised. i'll probably be going to the river or something on the weekends for long runs this summer if anyone cares to join me.
oh that last one was me.

22 for last week. it went well. i'm with mk on peachtree park running shirts so joe get on that. anyone know what day/time ec runs??
hey guys. i hit 30 last week and my legs are feeling great from the time off.
I was taking the first two days off, so I only got 18 last week. It felt smooth. I'm an incoming freshman, graduating from Green Hope High School (the one Felicity went to) on Friday.
I used to be in marching band but quit for cross country. It was a good decision.
The t-shirts are officially a work in progress now... Designs can be submitted via email or facebook. And Veronica hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they closed the trail up to Sope Creek for the summer, so only the gravel loop is open... The site to watch our EC Gibbs run the NCAA 1500 is:
http://www.ncaa.com/sports/c-otrack/ncaa-c-otrack-body.html
The semifinals for the 1500 are on Thursday at 8:10 Arkansas time which is 7:10 Atlanta time. The Finals for the 1500 is on Saturday at 1:21 Arkansas time 12:21 Atlanta time.
Joe also would like to outline what sort of activities we partake in during the evenings at Peachtree Park Running Camp. We never let the fire stop burning.
Not only do we get up early to run... Each night before lights out at 11 we allow our kindred spirits to be taken over by the middle school rock which flows ever so gloriously through my ipod speakers, motivating us to become better men. All I'm going to say is my room, door closed, shirtless Peachtree Park Campers, abs, pushups, and pullups in the closet.
Core work at its finest...
Had a cold last week. Got in about 10 mi.
I'm Eric Powers, an incoming freshman from Wando HS in Charleston, SC. I went 25 for the week. It was an ugly start, but got into my rhythm after a few days of running and feeling good now.
Yeah... For the times of EC's races... mixed those up. It would be at 9:10 and 2:21 for Atlanta time. My bad.
It's alright, Joe. We all appreciate your effort! Asst Coach and I have enjoyed the comments; we're still missing a few peeps though. We went to a trail today and had a good run, EC kept zipping by us every other loop, so he looks ready to go!
Hey this is Elena Hubbard, incoming freshman from Evans HS, GA. The past week I got in 22. It went smoothly but I'm still getting back into the running.
Hey guys :] I'm Kate Borowicz. Incoming freshman as well. I got in about 25 for my first week back. Felt okay for the first week, but ready to start feeling better. Hope everyone is having a great summer :]
Oops, I definitely forgot to post on here. 22 last week...I did my long run on the beach which was awesome but really tiring. My legs felt great, but I felt really tired and out of shape. This week has been a lot better so far!! Hope everyone is having a great summer :)
Oh!! If anybody wants to take a road trip to spend some time in VA Beach, just let me know!! Freshmen, too - don't be shy :)
Good luck, EC!!!
thanks joe, i will be sure to watch ec's race. don't know whether anyone has called my cell phone , but its broke and my new one doesn't come until the 16th. just wanted to let the peachtree park running camp i won't be joining them tomorrow morning. i got two tests, so i will be running tomorrow evening.
Hey guys, I didn't mention this in my post yesterday but I am Patrick Barron, an incoming freshman from Northern Virginia who graduated from W.T. Woodson HS in '08 and from the Lawrenceville School in '09.
Hey everyone. Ran 29 for the first week. Getting back into it and feeling good.
Dearest Tricks,
To second Mary's comment, I definitely forgot to post on here, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through everyone's comments. Especially Joe's. If any of the counselors of the PPRC are looking for other activities to partake in that include running but spice it up a little bit, let me know, because I am now an all-star day camp counselor for 8-12 year old children, and I will assure you that all listen to every word I say. Not. But to get back to the point of the posting, which would be mileage, and I ran 22 last week. Felt pretty bad the first couple of days but then started feeling much better later in the week, and ran 5 today and felt even better. I miss everyone and hope everybody's having a great summer!!!
31 for the first week. Are campers exposed to foosball in their off-time at PPRC?
and for all freshman and anyone else who hasn't seen it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_4a4O7kXQo
Foosball is definitely one of the activities offered at PPRC. Right now Tim Gugugleugieulmo leads the camp with a record of 51-20. Next is "The Law" as "Coach" refers to him with a record of 80-63. All skill levels are welcome.
Hello from the great state of Kansas! Hope you all are having fun and exciting summers! Its now Thursday and I just figured out how to use this...what a genius! Last weeks 22 miles were pretty rough but I am feeling much better this week! The cows, however, cannot compete with you all...not near as fun to train with! Miss you guys!!!
Twas a sad day Wednesday for Georgia Tech Track and Field... Our Atlanta Hawk, who watched us practice oh so many times, died... On a happier note, the t-shirt colors are going to be neon green and pink... What do you guys think?
since you are not going with GT colors joe, how about lemon yellow and emerald green? oregon's colors always make good shirts. not sure how neon green and pink would go together.
No there's two different colors for the shirts... You could get a shirt in neon green or you could get a shirt in neon pink... There's two shirts Greg...
I'm only a week late. But yeah sweet 21 miles after running zip for almost a year. Glorious.
Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and I'm an incoming freshman from Turpin High School in Cincinnati Ohio. Sorry to be posting this so late, but I ran 35 miles last week. My runs went well except for all the hills and rain that are unavoidable in cincy.
alittle late, but 25 for week 1 and 43 for week 2
So I'm kinda late...Hope all is going well for ya'll out there! Hello incoming freshmen and new team members can't wait to run concrete loops with you all!!
week 8-June: 22 miles
week 15-June:29 miles(Yippie Yay)
running is going well...a little worried about pacing (still learning hehe)
