Ok, the first week of higher end aerobic efforts should be in the books...er, logs. As you evaluate your runs, how do you know the efforts were in the right aerobic range? The answer is in your breathing, and your breathing don't lie (I know that is grammactically incorrect, just roll with it).
As you focus on learning or executing the 80-85% efforts, your breathing will guide you if let it. At the highest aerobic end, you should just barely be able to keep your breathing under control. When you feel you have gotten to a point where your breathing is too labored, where your breathing is unable to keep up with the running, you are just crossing over into the anaerobic range. While all of that is not exactly correct on a scientific basis, it is a good 'layman's description and a great rule of thumb.
So, focus on your breathing, stay relaxed, and have some great runs!

6. I can run again Wednesday. Hopefully that goes well.
Week of July 3-9: 34.5 over 6days, one day off to reallign knees cause both got thrown out from golfing.
Does anyone else run at Columns or PowersFerry on the Chattahoochee river?
50 this week, amazing that I fit it all in with all of the wedding celebrations! Also walked all around DC all week. Only did the fartlek run though, but it felt good.
66 for the week including a fartlek run on Tuesday and a strong aerobic run on Friday. I hope everyone had a good Fourth of July!
52 this week. Felt strong!
50 this week but had to do the days a bit out of order do to the weather (long run and easy Monday switched with the fartlek pushed back and not really structured). The MCAT is next Saturday - I can't WAIT to get it over with and start focusing on getting more sleep...miss everyone!! Hope your summers are going well :)
*due sorry ew I'm going to fail the MCAT there's an English portion
46 in 6 days. Took off Friday just to be cautious about a nagging foot injury, but it should be fine. Did an easy, unstructured fartlek with some mid-run surges and a 6 mile 80% at 6:08 pace. Feeling pretty solid, trying to keep on top of sleeping and recovering right.
Hey everybody, sorry I am a little late to the blog. My name is Jeremy and I am an incoming freshman from Virginia Beach. Just thought I'd introduce myself.
I ran 34 miles this week. I am excited to start structured training after 2 weeks of random easy runs. And Coach Drosky, I hope you don't mind if I sprinkle in some bikes and swims with my running. I have decided to do a triathlon just for fun later this month. I figure the cross training can only help. All this in addition to abs and strength work and I will hopefully be ready to train hard when school starts.

51 miles This week. Felt great in the long run, fartlek, and strong aerobic run. Breathing was fine. I have not run a 5k/10k all summer so I'll be using the breathing "trick."
32 for the week of June 26th and 40 for the week of July 3rd. Sorry there was a delay in posting last weeks mileage... I was on vacation in Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
48 for this week, kinda developed some leg soreness over the week so I made sure to keep my easy days easy to recover. Ran peachtree as my tempo this week, it was a really solid effort! My time was 36:23, so right around 5:52 pace. I will say it is alot easier to run a tempo when thousands of people are cheering for you though, you should try to work that out in the fall coach ha. My fartlek was solid too did a 5-4-3-3-1 on the track with Joe Stowe and Greer. Started around 80% and ended around 86-87%.
Headed up to North Georgia to a running camp this week! Hoping to get some solid runs in the mountains!
40 miles for the week. I was in the blue ridge mountains in VA with my whole extended family doing lots of hiking in addition to the running and I'm not used to so many hills so my left upper quad is sore-I've been icing it and I'm going to be extra cautious this week
48 in 6 days... to copy jade from last week, "feelin good feelin great"
Wooh just finished my long run... this Miami weather is definitely getting to me. 46 For the week! I finally got the right supplement of IRON... not that it's been a year or anything. Also tried the Ensure nutrition drink, it's pretty darn good! Try putting it in the freezer so that it has a smoothie texture... hope everyone is doing well!!!!! Bye guy's!!!!
Also Hiiii OTHER RACHEL!!!
39 in 5 days this past week. Forced to take 2 days off due to travel
52 Hot-N-Steamy miles of running pleasure. The week started with a 10mi long run at Yellow River allowing me to run with whitetail deer over rugged, untamed terrain (slightly majestic). The week really started to heat up when Alec decided to wake up and join me in a relentless pursuit of 80% chivalry around the foggy lake-loop-of-doom (4mi in 24:12). TGIF morning turned into a triple threat of ferocious fartlek around the GT Track. Robert: Greer, Cameron, Alec, and I have been known to venture out to the chattahoochee river to run in the mornings.
46 for the week... I didn't feel well earlier in the week due to lack of sleep. I reasserted my dedication to sleep and recovery and I feel much better having a great fartlek with Cameron and Joe Stowe. And yes, I do run at the river from time to time typically during the weekend and around 7:30 a.m. on tuesdays and thursdays on the I-285 side.
Katie V- 50 for the week. Feeling pretty good and really looking forward to meeting and running with everyone!

40, long run felt really good. Need to be more dedicated to the strength training.
57 miles this week and feeling great!
40 for the week
40 this week, still really hot and humid to feel nice in the morning!
Jeremy, what high school did you go to?! So excited you're coming to GT!!!
36
47. Legs feeling a little better.
Just realized that I put 'Obiandu' isntead of Obi...and I did it last week too. Well there's nothing wrong with that.
55 in 6 days.
46 miles for the week...fartlek and strong aerobic runs are still a little rough but I feel like im quickly getting back into it
46. Was going for 52 but was really struggling near the end of the week and realized I might be trying to increase mileage too fast since I got back from my foot injury, so I backed off a bit. My 6 mile 80% and 5-4-3-2-1 fartlek both felt pretty good, nothing amazing though.
Patrick, the comment box accepts things other than numbers. Like words and sentences.
^Well that was me. Stupid length cap on names.
45 last week. Felt really good. It's going to be hot this week. Getting into the 90s (I swear that is hot here). I really need to adjust to heat though
28 miles for the week, a good fartlek then AT intervals in Asheville before running camp started. Great talk today by a coach of recent championship teams. Look for more on the biology and chemistry of his talk in next week's post.

Thanks, Maureen!! Haha right now I feel like I'm going to...yikes.
Ohh Grassfield!! Ok I knew we had someone coming to GT from there I just thought maybe you were from VB instead. That's close enough though, so I guess it counts :) Make sure you go to the lunch thing for GT freshman in the 757; they give out a lot of free stuff haha
