meditations

"When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love." - Marcus Aurelius

Reminder of move-in dates...

Incoming first-year: move-in August 12-13
Transfers: move in August 13
Returning Students: move-in August 14

Both the team and GTAA will have functions during the following week before school starts.  Before you make any other plans for this week, make sure you clear with coaches first. If you know of any conflicts, make sure you notify coaches as soon as possible.

YEAR-END INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS... as you know did not happen.  However, a google doc sign-up sheet will be forwarded to everyone so that those who would like to schedule an individual meeting will be able to do so.  These meetings won't begin until the week of July 18.  If you want to get a head start on scheduling, feel free to text us with dates and times that would work for you.  Sorry we did not get these time more timely, but we look forward to these meetings!

Keep the volume this week right around the same as last week, 80-85% of full volume, give or take.  After five weeks of building, use this week as a consolidation or recovery week, before going to full volume next week.

Your week should look like... one long run, one to two "easy tempos", hills or fast strides on Thu, and one day off.  Similar to last week's recommendation... if you finish each week and wonder if you are actually going too easy... you've probably nailed the week perfectly!

32 miles. A little behind on the mileage build but I’m trying to take a slow. Kinda felt slow this week but I fully believe it was bc the humidity sucked most days.

Did some great swimming and biking last week with a couple of long-ish walks pain-free. Looking forward to running again. It has been a blast having Nicole here in South Africa with me!!

40 miles last week. Sharpened up a little bit racing against an absolute stud in the Rabun ramble Saturday (oh and Athanas kioko pulled up too) and and good effort in the Peachtree this morning with mr. Higinbotham

33 miles last week. Got sick this past week and kept me in bed on Tuesday. Eased back into it the rest of the week at reduced mileage while trying to recover, still not feeling 100%. Looking to pick up mileage where I left off. Had fun getting a little harder effort run in Cleveland for a Fourth of July 5k, great seeing Katherine there too!

62 miles last week and many hours of surfing. Taking advantage of the waves since there was a huge storm so the swell is much better than usual. Love being back up in mileage and things are going well in training but also being mindful of how my body is feeling instead of looking at paces each run to which is new for me lol. Happy 4th and hope you guys have a great week!

55 miles last week! Focusing on prioritizing rest & recovery which is helping a lot as the mileage is building. Ran a 4th of July 5k today & it was so much fun, definitely got me pumped for the cross season to start!

60 miles last week. Devin and I had a great tempo effort, approaching race effort at the end which broke up the monotony of summer and reminded me how fun it is to pass people.

50 miles last week. Been waking up slightly earlier so I can go to trails before work instead of sidewalks outside of my apartment. The low humidity in Colorado has been treating me nicely now that my lungs are acclimated. Runs are starting to feel how they normally would in Georgia pace/effort wise, and I’m really excited to see what kind of shape I’m in come late August, and even more in December at the Clemson opener. Hope everyone had a good 4th of July!

21 miles last week and 85 minutes of cross training! I'm taking it easy after not feeling so well last week, and my hamstrings and soleus are sore per usual. Sunday run was already a lot stronger!

42 miles last week. Got a bit sick (thanks Alex) so took an extra day off to recover and not let the sickness linger. Ran a 4th of July 5K against Devin and Athanas Kioko. Kept it as a tempo to threshold effort, which was very fun to let the legs spin a bit. Also, jogged the Peachtree, which is my first time ever running it so that was a lot of fun. Sickness is gone now, feeling great, and I'm ready to push mileage closer to full volume over the course of July!

28 miles. Outside arches of my feet are still in pain after running. Taking today and tomorrow off and replacing with aqua jogging to see if it helps. Icing seems to help with it a bit, so hopefully will be back and fully healthy soon.

Meeting up with lots of alumni for some of my miles, gonna double this week for the first time but it’ll be a nice warm up to yoga

i was having some hip pain so i had an MRI last week and they found that i have a glute tear, a pelvic tear and some bad tendonitis in my hip:( the doctor suggested 4 weeks of full rest and starting cardio after that. it sticks missing out on summer training but it’s for the best!

Isabella Turner said...

no running last week due to shin pain that focalized on one specific spot. I tried running every other day but it wasn't improving so I decided to double down on cross training, icing, and massaging. I am waiting to hear from Dr. Mason but my runs this week have been better so far.

Katy- 55 miles last week! I was able to run the peachtree yesterday which was so fun! Definitely want to do that race again! Took it at a tempo effort. The race made me realize how much I can’t wait for the fall semester to start so I can run with all my teammates πŸ€—
